Chinese lanterns replace fire crackers

chinese lanterns in ManilaOn the 19th December 2009, the skies over the Philippines were filled with Chinese lanterns, released in celebration of the first ever Flying Lantern festival in the country.
Charles Dumancas, the organiser of the event, spoke of his hopes that bringing people together for such a joyous occasion and to be part of creating a wonderful display of Chinese lanterns would discourage the use of potentially deadly firecrackers during the festive holidays. Not only this, but he hoped that the lanterns, which are traditionally believed to bring good luck in and around the Philippines, would start a yearly tradition not only the country of origin, but in Thailand and China as well. We at Wishlantern love to hear about our products being part of a campaign for a good cause, and are always keen to find out about more like this, so that we can either get involved, or maybe just write about it! If you or anyone you know is planning something like Charles Dumancas did, please do get in touch and share the details with us. Who knows, we may even be able to pop along and offer our support in person (this particularly applies if the event is to be held in an exotic location).
