Celebrate Chinese New Year with Chinese Lanterns

chinese new year in ChinatownAs Christmas and New Year’s Eve come and go, we at Wishlantern have been looking forward to yet another celebration, and another excuse to gather our friends around and enjoy some beautiful Chinese Lanterns. Chinese New year is the most significant of the Chinese holidays, and traditionally begins on the first day of the first month, exactly like the roman calendar. The festivities will carry on, with many observing them in a variety of different ways, usually until around the 15th of January, which is when the Lantern festival itself will take place, to bring a close to the season. Throughout China, families will gather together and feast, exchange presents, and work hard to thoroughly clean their homes, as a mark of sweeping out bad luck which would otherwise be with them for the duration of the coming year. This special time is one of thanks and reflection, as well as looking forward to posterity, good health and wealth.
If you’re feeling a little like you’ve got the January blues, why not hold a Chinese New Year party for yourself and those you love? What better way to lift your spirits than releasing some Chinese Lanterns, and making wishes for the year ahead? And of course, with our beautiful lanterns, there is no end to the wishes you could be granted!
